Working within a live prison environment brings a lot of extra challenges, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Not only were there very high levels of security but also the materials used within the construction of the building were obviously very tough to disassemble without causing too much disruption. It goes without saying that these projects are not just the ‘normal’ strip outs. Within the strip out of the ground floor we had the task of removing toughened glass partitions and steel fabricated security doors, all of which required the use of specialist lifting equipment. The reinforced concrete walls were not suitable for manual demolition, so we used both robotic demolition and concrete sawing methods which, despite being a challenging period of the project, we succeeded in completing the task while managing noise and dust within such a high security environment.
